MAJOR PRODUCTIONS
1. PLAY SUBMISSION AND SELECTION PROCESS
It is the mandate of Windmill Theatre Players "to provide opportunities to the community". Therefore each production is expected to have a crew. Being a volunteer association, having a large crew costs no more than a small one and shares the workload. If one person must fill more than one position, s/he should carry out all the responsibilities of all those positions, and this can be onerous. Due to the complexity of the tasks of the producer and the director, neither will take on any acting role within the production.
The WTP Executive board is an elected body that is responsible to uphold the society by- laws and make all financial decisions regarding WTP productions. All main productions must be approved by the board prior to being staged. All submissions are made to, and selected by the WTP Executive.
Any WTP member willing to direct a play can submit a play for either the Spring or Fall production. Submissions should include;
A proposal including a synopsis of the play and any crew recruited; An estimated budget (sample budget near end of document); Technical requirements, i.e. projection, sound, lighting
Copies of the play for the executive to read.
If required, the board may request additional meetings with the production team to discuss proposals and address any questions prior to approval. Once reviewed, the board will respond to all proposals directly regarding approval or alternate dates.
Windmill Theatre Players is a volunteer organization, and no remuneration should be offered to cast, crew, front of house, musicians, or any other production volunteers.
Policies regarding submission passed at the 1999 AGM:
-
Submissions for major productions will be accepted on a once-a-year seasonal selection process (submitted by the deadline of the February or March executive meeting).
-
A director (or other submitter) may submit only one play for any major production.
The Executive Board will read all submissions and vote on the next production at the following executive meeting. If no submissions are made, the executive can extend the deadline.
If necessary, a Producer will be appointed by the executive, but the executive is not responsible for supplying a director. The director should be involved in the submission process.
Submissions without a director will not be considered.
